WLAN Security Megaprimer Part 20: Understanding WPA/WPA2
In this video, we will start with the basics of WPA/WPA2. WPA was proposed as an interim solution by the Wi-Fi alliance because WEP had become too much of a public embarrassment :) WPA2 was still under design and the release was to happen as the 802.11i draft.
Both WPA/WPA2 have a Personal and Enterprise version. Personal typically uses PSK and Enterprise 802.1x + Radius server. WPA uses TKIP (based on WEP) for encryption and WPA2 uses CCMP (based on AES).
In this video, we will use Wireshark to understand how a Client can know the encryption settings of an access point. This will also help us understand the possibility of a Honeypot for WPA/WPA2.
